Drum Magnet Separator

Product Review: Drum Magnet Separator

  • Brief Product Description A Drum Magnet Separator is a vital industrial equipment for separating magnetic materials (such as iron particles) from non-magnetic materials in a continuous flow. This device is widely used in mining industries (iron ore separation, metal recycling), food industries (removing ferrous contaminants from products), recycling industries, chemical industries, and in the processing of powdered or granular materials. Its primary goal is to purify the product from ferrous particles and protect downstream equipment from damage.

  • Structural Features

    • Magnetic Drum: The core component of the device, containing powerful magnets (typically neodymium or ferrite) housed within a non-magnetic stainless steel shell.
    • Drum Shell: A thin, durable cylinder made of stainless steel that rotates around the magnetic poles.
    • Frame/Support Structure: The structure that holds the magnetic drum and allows it to rotate.
    • Drive System: Includes an electric motor and gearbox to rotate the drum at a controlled speed.
    • Feed Chute: For directing materials onto the drum surface.
    • Conveyor Flights (in some models): Attached to the drum shell to aid in material transport.
    • Clean Product Chute: For collecting non-magnetic materials.
    • Magnetic Product Chute: For collecting the attracted magnetic materials.
  • Mechanism of Operation The mixed material (containing magnetic and non-magnetic components) is fed via the feed chute onto the surface of the rotating magnetic drum. Strong magnetic poles inside the drum attract ferrous or magnetic particles, holding them to the drum shell’s surface. As the drum rotates, these magnetic materials move along with the drum shell downwards. When the magnetic material passes beyond the strong magnetic zone (typically at the lower part of the drum), the magnetic field strength reduces, causing the captured particles to detach from the drum surface and fall into the dedicated magnetic product chute. Meanwhile, non-magnetic materials, unaffected by the magnetic field, continuously fall off the drum’s surface and are collected in the clean product chute. The drum’s rotation speed and the magnetic field strength are key factors for effective separation.
