Pelletizing Disc

Brief Product Description A Pelletizing Disc (also known as a granulation disc) is a device that transforms powdered or granular materials into uniformly spherical pellets by adding an appropriate amount of moisture and binder. This process, called pelletizing or granulation, is crucial for improving the physical properties of materials (such as strength, transportability, and dissolution rate), facilitating further processing, and reducing dust in industries like mining (iron ore pellet production), fertilizer manufacturing, animal feed production, chemical industries, and cement production.

Structural Features

Disc: The main component of the machine, set at a specific angle to the horizontal, where materials are tumbled. The inner surface of the disc usually has ridges or grooves to aid in the formation and rolling of pellets.

Frame/Base: The structure that supports the disc and the drive system.

Drive System: Includes an electric motor and gearbox that rotate the disc at an adjustable speed.

Angle Adjustment Mechanism: A mechanism to precisely adjust the disc’s angle, which affects the size and quality of the pellets.

Pelletizing Disc

Mechanism of Operation

The powdered or granular raw material, along with a binder (such as water, lime, or specific chemicals), is fed from the inlet chute onto the top of the rotating disc. Simultaneously, water or binder solution is sprayed onto the materials through nozzles. Centrifugal force generated by the disc’s rotation propels the materials towards the disc’s edge. Meanwhile, the ridges and grooves on the disc’s surface cause the particles to roll and collide with each other and with the moisture, causing them to agglomerate and form small lumps. These lumps grow larger and more spherical as they roll, eventually falling off the edge of the disc as ready pellets. The disc’s angle and rotation speed are key factors in controlling the size and quality of the produced pellets.
