Product Review: Filter Press
Brief Product Description A Filter Press is a key piece of industrial equipment for solid-liquid separation (slurry dewatering) across a wide range of industries, including mining, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, wastewater treatment, and sludge processing. This device uses pressure to force liquid through filter media that trap the solids, producing a filter cake (compressed solids). Filter presses are popular due to their high efficiency, reliability, and ability to produce a cake with a high solids content.
Structural Features filter press
- Frame: Consists of vertical columns and horizontal beams (cross and side beams) that support the entire structure. Typically made from cast iron or steel.
- Filter Plates: Components arranged in a row to form the filter pack. These plates have channels for the passage of filtrate and surfaces for cake collection. They are usually made of polypropylene (PP), cast iron, or stainless steel.
- Filter Cloths: The filtration membrane installed on the plates that separates the solids. Their material varies depending on the application (e.g., polypropylene, polyester, nylon).
- Pressing System: The mechanism for applying pressure to compress the plates and filter pack. This system can be mechanical (screw), hydraulic, or pneumatic.
- Plate Shifting System: An automatic or manual mechanism for moving the plates after the filtration process is complete.
- Cloth Washing System (in some models): For in-situ washing of the filter cloths.
Mechanism of Operation First, the slurry (mixture of solids and liquid) is pumped into the device’s inlet channels by a pump. As the filter plates are closed by the pressing system, the liquid is forced under pressure through the filter cloths and directed to the filtrate outlet channels, while solids accumulate on the surface of the cloths, forming the filter cake. This process continues until all liquid is separated or the plates are filled. After filtration is complete, the pressing system is released, and the plates are separated one by one. The accumulated filter cake is discharged from the plates, and the machine is ready for the next cycle. In membrane filter press models, after the initial filtration, membranes are inflated with air or liquid to further compress the cake and reduce its moisture content.
